Sea Sun Sex and Sangria!

The best part about having Spanish food is indulging in their social tipple - Sangria. Sangria is a local wine punch native to Spain and Portugal and I absolutely love it because I usually end up drinking copious amounts before the alcohol hits and I turn into a cooked lobster. Its usually made with cheap wine and fruit juices and here is my recipe which I found off the net and modified based on what I have on hand.

You need:

Serves about 5 medium glasses.

How to:

  1. Halve the oranges and squeeze out the juice into a jug. I usually dig out the pulp as well. Cut up some of the rind and throw it into the jug.
  2. Add the diced apples.
  3. Pour the red wine into the jug.
  4. Add half a can of pineapple juice and a cup of orange juice
  5. Stir in the sugar if you like it sweet. Else just stir the mix.
  6. Cover and chill it in the fridge overnight or for at least 3 hours so it mellows.
  7. Pour into glasses and serve.

If you like it stronger, you can add a touch of brandy just before serving. I don’t as its strong enough for me. I’ve had successes thus far with this recipe and I use any cheap wine that costs between RM28-30. Merlots are sweeter and I try not to use Cabernet Sauvingons as they are dry so the taste is sappier.

You can also serve with ice but I don’t as I find it waters the drink down as the ice melts.

I am *hic*ed just looking at it.. So nice, but can add local flavor? Not suggesting durians, but how about some watermelon cubes, or chiku slices? And rename it Pinkgrrl..

PB says: LOL! I’m not a fan of watermelon but yeah should try to localise it a tad

I have a friend who absolutely loves sangria, and every time we go out, a jug is a must! I think when I visit her next, we’ll just make it in her kitchen. save $, and can get drunk at home — oops, was that too much wine in that sangria? *wink*

PB says: hehe… Its always ok to get drunk at home. Safe and you get to go to sleep right away

It’s a favorite among my girlfriends when we go out! I shall bookmark this recipe for the next bachelorette party night. Hehehe.

PB says: Your friends will love you for this! Haha… Especially when you get to sprawl on the couch at home without having to think about driving home

Can I joint you next time,,,,,,,,pleaseeeee?

PB says: Heh… Sangria party?

PB says: Thank you and I hope you enjoy it
