Ipoh - Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun

I don’t usually eat Ipoh style chee cheong fun (rice flour strips) because I never really felt the urge to. However, when I went to Ipoh, I decided to see what the hype was all about. In the same coffeeshop where I had the Ipoh Hor Fun, was a chee cheong fun stall.

What is so unique about Ipoh Chee Cheong Fun is the fact that it is eaten plain with some sweet sauce, chilli sauce, sesame seeds and some pickled green chilli. This pickled green chilli is what makes this dish unique.

Since I was trying it out, I opted to try another variety that was had pickled radish (chai por in Hokkien or choy po in Cantonese) in it. Its the one that’s rolled up in the picture. The one in strips are the plain variety.

Honestly, I thought it did not taste too bad. Eating it with pickled green chilli takes some getting used to, but I kind of like it as it adds a sweet, sour and spicy twist to this dish. Yummy!
